The Israeli variety was obtained by crossing a nutmeg pumpkin with a wild African look. The shape of the fruit is very unusual, attractive, pear-shaped. The mass of fully ripened fruits can reach 1−1.2 kg. Thick yellow-orange peel covers the flesh of an oily appearance. The pulp is characterized by a pleasant taste and a slight aftertaste of nutmeg. Seed is located in the expanded part of the fetus.

The main care measures are weeding, periodic hilling and regular loosening of the soil. The correct application of fertilizer twice a month is very important. The plant needs abundant watering. In addition, it is necessary to pinch the lashes in the region of the second leaf in the area after the ovary. A good result is obtained by artificial pollination.

Pumpkin "Butternut": useful properties

Watering and mulching

When growing pumpkins of the "Batternat" variety, irrigation, which is recommended to combine with loosening and weeding ridges of open ground, is of particular importance. It is very important to maintain optimal soil looseness and prevent the formation of soil crust, which disrupts the penetration of moisture and air to the root system of the plant.

After the appearance of female flowers on the plants and the formation of fruit ovaries, watering should be carried out at least three times a month. Starting in August, it is recommended to reduce the watering of a vegetable crop, which will allow the formed fruits to accumulate sugar content and form the most durable bark, which can easily withstand storage in the winter. About three weeks before harvesting, you need to completely stop watering.

As a very effective measure for caring for pumpkins of this variety, it is desirable to mulch the soil between plants. For this purpose, you can use sawdust, building sand, hay or straw. In the process of the second cultivation, which is carried out about a month after the emergence of mass seedlings, it is necessary to remove all weed vegetation, and also carefully spread the growing pumpkin lashes.

Pumpkin dressing

Pumpkin of foreign selection under the name "Butternat" needs competent fertilizer application at all stages of the development of a vegetable crop. Fertilizing is very important to combine with irrigation activities. The main feeding is carried out at the stage of the first hilling of a vegetable crop, and further fertilizing is carried out during the flowering of the plant and with the mass formation of ovaries.

Mineral fertilizers should be applied very carefully to feed the pumpkin. Such top dressing must be alternated with organics. The enrichment of the soil with wood ash, as well as herbal, including nettle, infusions, shows very good results.

Reviews and advice for vegetable growers

The best butternut pumpkin crop can be obtained when grown after legumes or cruciferous plants. As a rule, experienced vegetable growers during the entire growing season carry out two dressings of a vegetable crop of this variety. The first fertilizer application is important in the two-leaf phase, after preliminary weeding. The second top dressing is necessary for the Butternut pumpkin in the phase of four true leaves.

Reviews of both experienced vegetable growers and beginning gardeners about this variety are most often positive. The benefits of the foreign butternut pumpkin variety include good pollination rates, an abundance of ovaries and an attractive fruit shape. In addition, the flesh of this variety has excellent taste.
